Hey guys! Today I will be writing about what remembrance day should mean to us and how we should respect the veterans who fought and survived in this war.
Remembrance day should make us remember and respect the veterans who fought in this war.
Remembrance day should make us take two minutes of our lives to be silent.
Remembrance day should make us bow our heads on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month every year.
We should be able to respect veterans and take the time out of our busy lives. Respect is important. We should all know better than to not bow our heads and be silent. Do not think that it’s not important. Because it is very important. Colonel John McCrae made a poem called In Flanders Fields. Here is the poem:
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands, we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
-John McCrae, 1918
When I read this poem, I recognized that it had meaning. It wasn’t just a poem with fancy words that don’t make sense, no, it was one of those poems that are very touching. I think that not enough people know about it. Please spread the word. Thank you. I hope you found the poem interesting as well. Soon, while I’m writing this, it will be eleven o’clock. Then, we’ll bow our heads down. It’s 10:54 right now. 10:55. 10:56. 10:57. 10:58. 10:59. 11:00. We bow down our heads in respect. Respect.
The end.
Thank you for reading.
