History 4 Lesson 61-65

Hey guys! Today I will talk to you about the inventions I learned about. Today I was assigned to write about the following subject: Describe each of the inventions studied in the course this week and how they impacted history. Also write about the most interesting thing you learned, and why.

Buttons…

So, the first invention we learned about is buttons. So imagine if you have a shirt that you have to button up, it did not have buttons then it would just be all lose all the time and you can’t just button it up like you want it would just be open all the whole time you had that shirt. well thanks to the person that invented buttons in the first place so now you have a nice buttoned up shirt that you will stay warm and cozy in it. So I have a few buttoned up shirts of my own and I would be frezing my but off if I were to have that on today and pus it’s pretty cold today. Buttons have been around since forever so I might just not be able to tell you what year they were made. But I can tell you that they were made in the 13th century and about approximately 50000 years ago. Buttons are a really small thing but they changed the world a whole lot for us but in a very good way that we should all appreciate a lot.

We can’t exactly say they changed the whole wide entire planet but what we can say is that they changed a lot of it for us all.

Buttons were starting to be made with a bunch of plastics like for example cellulose, polystyrene, and polyvinyl. So buttons were maybe invented before zippers or something else they were very popular back in the day when someone said “electricity” they had no idea what they were talking about when anyone said that, but when they said buttons they knew what they were talking about in a super duper quick flash like a lightning strike.

Oil painting…

Did any of you guys ever know that the Mona Lisa was made of Oil paint? Well if not, yes the Mona Lisa was made with the oil paint. I am going to show you a picture of the Mona Lisa so here it is:

Mona Lisa - Wikipedia

There is the Mona Lisa the most famous painting in the world. The Mona Lisa is a half-length portrait painting by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. It is considered a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance, and has been described as “the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world. Mona Lisa recovered 100 years ago – More than 100 years ago, in August 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen off the walls of the Louvre in Paris. The famous Leonardo da Vinci painting wasn’t recovered until two years later, in December 1913

Cannons…

Cannons are used for war right? Yes that was technically the only use that they have that they used it for a reason, not saying it was a good reason but they mostly used it for wars.

The distinction between early “guns” and “cannons” is difficult, since early “guns” were simply miniature cannons small enough to be held in hand. … These later got bigger and became cannon, which had to be hauled around by oxen but were much more effective at killing people. I did see a tv show that had a teen get launched in a cannon to the sky and then he landed on a sticky pad but cannons should never be used like that they only did that in the shoe because it was fake. It’s the secret of angles that make it look like that.

Spinning wheel…

The spinning wheel was invented in China about 1000 AD and the earliest drawing of a spinning wheel that we have is from about 1035 AD (see Joseph Needham). Spinning wheels later spread from China to Iran, from Iran to India, and eventually to Europe. Spinning wheels are like sewing machines except the less advanced version of it. A “spinning wheel” is a device for spinning thread or yarn from fibres. It was fundamental to the cotton textile industry prior to the Industrial Revolution. It laid the foundations for later machinery such as the spinning jenny and spinning frame, which displaced the spinning wheel during the Industrial Revolution.

My vacation to Earlton

Hey guys today I will tell you about my vacation to Earlton. So first we got an hour long delay because there was a accident between a pickup truck and a transport truck. My dad keeps saying “if that guy in the pickup truck was in a car he would be toast” so we just considered ourselves lucky that it wasn’t us in that situation. My brother Jake and my dad were talking to two other guys about the accident and did that for pretty much the whole delay. Anyway, we were back on the road to Earlton. Ok so when we got in to Earlton we pulled into the driveway of the folks that were the reason why we went to Earlton in the first place. Bison Du Nord!(Bison of the North). They are a part of the website my mom and dad have made its called Click Fork. It’s like a market that’s online and you order anything that you can from a nice yummy shoulder roast(super duper good) to an amazing batch of cucumbers!(also amazingly good). I don’t know if you could tell but I am obviously a cucumber lover. Bison Du Nord produces grass fed-grass finished bison beef just like us except we have cows instead of bison. I even have my own bison sticky teddy that is on the headphones I’m wearing right now to type this essay. So we had lunch at bison du nord and if you’re wondering what we ate, it was yummy ham sandwiches. Ok after a long day at bison du nord, we finally went back to our apartment, but not for long! So the apartment had 3 tv’s, two beds and a pull- out couch. me and my sisters room had one tv and a little cubby hole we or at least I went up to hangout and watch tv up there. at first when you see the door that leads to the heater, you would think that the cubby hole is a bathroom but then when you open it it’s just a heater and then that’s when we knew that it was a cubby hole. That was in New-Liskeard

Incorporated as a town in 1904, it amalgamated with the town of New Liskeard and Dymond Township (incorporated 1901) to create the city of Temiskaming Shores in 2004. In 1889, Haileybury was established by Charles C. Farr, who had come to the area six years earlier as an employee of Hudson’s Bay Company. Source from: Haileybury | The Canadian Encyclopedia.

Did you know that the biggest house in all of canada is located in haileybury? Ya it is and we accidentally seen it while we were driving by at first we thought it was some sort of water factory but then we looked it up and it was the biggest house in canada today.

In the late 1800s, the Ontario government was eager to establish settlements in an area known as the Clay Belt, which fans out from the north end of Lake Temiskaming. This area of rich farmland was seen as a prime starting point for the settlement of New Ontario as northern Ontario was then called. At that time, no one dreamt that silver mining in Cobalt, and gold mining on the northern fringes of the Clay Belt, in Kirkland Lake, and further north in Timmins, would soon become the driving force for settlement, rather than farming. For at that time, many believed that there were no precious metals like gold and silver east of the Rocky Mountains.

The towns of New Liskeard and Haileybury on Lake Temiskaming were both established in the late 1890’s, but at that time the only way to reach the towns was by canoe or by steamer up the lake in the summer. Only a few hundred people lived in the area, but there was a push to build a train line north from North Bay to New Liskeard, to help promote settlement. Initially there was commercial interest in the project, but this faded, and in 1902 the Ontario Government decided to build the line. By the summer of 1903 the line, the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario, was getting close to Haileybury (imagine that happening today make a decision to proceed, and a year later 100 miles of track are already laid!).

Numerous contractors were employed in the construction contracting out is not a new concept. Among the contractors were James McKinley and Ernest Darragh who were supplying ties for the line. In the summer of 1903 they were working north of the Montreal River, ahead of the rail line itself. Source from: The Rise and Fall of a Mining Camp.

My hilite of the trip was probably my family, but other than that and having fun it would probably be when we went to that mini golf place and when we went to the park right next to it. There was this thing on the park called a lollipop and it was crazy awesome and hilarious!

Well the next day we just went around town playing on the parks hiking witch was really fun and shoping.

So when we got to the last but not least beautiful view on our hike, we seen a sign that said to be careful because if you fell off of there you would die because its 300 deep of feet of water and 300 feet high of cliff. The sign said there was a person named Alex Barrett that fell off of there and died and he was probably there to celebrate his 20th birthday and if he was still alive he would have been 30 because that was in 2010 that he fell. Did you know that there was a silver mine rush in Cobalt’s hiking trail called Devil’s rock? We all enjoyed all 6 different but very beautiful and high awesome views on the mountain and our dad even took a picture of all four of us on the glorious mountain view, it was the biggest and best view of them all and before that my mom took some pictures of us all together as a family. I think she put the Iphone XR that she had bought from apple on a pretty sturdy tree and then put the ten second or the five second count down and then we all smiled and had a great time. We repeated this cycle over and over again but we did different angles and different poses we also of course did a ultimate silly billy picture just for the requester, which was Olivia, my older sister at first Jake or Jacob my older brother, did not like the idea at first. But my mom, my dad, my sister Olivia and me Emma just kinda sorta convinced him as usual.

The following morning, bright and early, we left for home where our friends were waiting for us at our house well their mom was on a call in our office and the rest were at the sheep. There tiny dog named Solstice, was waiting for us. Then soon after we got back they got back from the sheep and they went back home with their dog after a little hanging out of course, then everything went back to normal.

That’s all folks, hope y’all enjoyed!

RPC Science 4 Lesson 151-155 go go go!

Hey guys now I have started the last unit of grade 4 science and I won’t be doing the exact same thing but I will still be studying animals. By the way, there is 180 lessons. So I needed to register on this site called Zooniverse and Tinkercad. I need to study and identify wildlife that is filmed on cameras that are in the wildlife. I am studying on an african project called snapshot serengeti witch is an african project that is from zebras to wild bird and from lions to willdabeast. I identified several animals for about 20 minutes and its really cool you should really check it out. Tinkercad however, I haven’t tried it yet but I’m pretty sure its a 3d printer so I can create and test out and even buy my own designs maybe. I haven’t tried Tinkercad yet because we either have to get approved in 3-5 days for free or pay money to get approved now. I observed a lot of wildebeest and zebras. ghere is the link to Zooniverse to create your own account: https://www.zooniverse.org/accounts/register just copy paste it in your browser if its not working.

That’s all folks, hope y’all enjoyed!

RPCScience 4Lesson 86-90

Hey guys today I will talk to you about the five amazing animals I learned about today. I learned bout the great white shark, the killer whale, the giant squid and last but not least the sperm whale. So let’s start with the GREAT WHITE SHARK!!!!!!!! Did you know that shark researchers actually tags and name the sharks that they find? Well yes they do and in fact the biggest one they ever found was taged and named deep blue and had a big bunch of bite marks on herself that are either from mating scars or combats with the other sharks. White sharks are responsible for the most attacks on humans. Their bite can be over 4,000 pounds of pressure. They can live up to 70 years and can swim 35 mph on a normal daily basis and they can go 10 times faster than the human swimmer when attacking (40 mph (miles per hour)). However the mako shark is the fastest shark of all of them. I think that sharks are very fascinating animals because their behaviour, their teeth and so much more like bite marks and mating scars and so much more!

Ok now let’s talk about the killer whale or the orca!

Orcas reach maturity at age 10. Wild orcas can live over 90 years old. Average lifespan is 50 years. Orcas often hunt together to overwhelm sharks and whales. They prevent small whales from resurfacing, causing them to drown.

Killer whales have high intelligence. This killer whale is playing with an ice chunk after a scientist threw a snow ball at it:HTML5 Icon

Ok on to the giant squid.

Giant squid move by sucking water into their mantles and squeezing it out (jet propulsion).

Giant squids have large eyes (11 inches in diameter) for detecting light in dark places.HTML5 Icon

The latest footage of the giant squid in action that was captured on camera was in 2015 but the latest footage on camera in the wild was in 2012. Colossal squid may be slightly larger than the giant squid, 46 feet long.

Ok on to the giant sperm whale!

The sperm whale the biggest predator in the ocean! Sperm whales hunt for giant squid. Sperm whales are known to dive over 6,000 ft. below the surface. They are the second deepest diving mammal. See the size of a sperm whale compared to a human:

They reach about 67 ft. in length.

That’s only the top five biggest whales but there plenty more species out there still and some that we haven’t even discovered yet!

Well that’s all folks, hope y’all enjoyed!

RPC Science 4 Lesson 80-85

Hey guys today I will talk to you about the ocean creatures I learned about today. So I learned about the stonefish, the sunfish and jellyfish (they taught both animals in the same lesson), the barreleye fish and how to cut trout and salmon fillets so let’s start by the stonefish.

Did you know that the stonefish is actually the most venomous fish in the world!? Well, if you didn’t know, now you know.

The reef stonefish:HTML5 Icon

The stonefish is one of the most venomous fish in the world and stings can cause death if not treated. Most stonefish stings occur as a result of stepping on the creature which forces venom into the foot, while it is less common for the fish to sting when it is picked up. Stonefish stings can occur on the beach, not just in the water, since stonefish can survive out of the water for up to 24 hours. They are not easily seen as they look similar to rocks or coral. Stonefish anti venom is the second-most administered in Australia.

Ok onto the sunfish.

The ocean sunfish is the biggest bony fish in the world. They can weigh up to 3,500 pounds. Ocean sunfish allow smaller fish to eat off parasites that attach to them. Ocean sunfish can produce 300 million eggs, the most of any animal. The species is native to tropical and temperate waters around the world. It resembles a fish head with a tail, and its main body is flattened laterally.

🔥 Ocean Sunfish - world's heaviest bony fish 🔥 : NatureIsFuckingLit

Ok on to the jellyfish. I honestly think that jellyfish are fascinating all their little tentacles are cool. The other thing is, jellyfish are called jellyfish but they are not actually fish!? Their actually invertebrates.

LION'S MANE JELLYFISH: The Biggest Jellyfish In The World - YouTube

They can be as big as this one

Jellyfish facts: 12 things you didn't know about jellies - Business Insider

or as small as this one. Cool right!?

Ok on to the barreleye fish.

The name spookfish, or barreleye, as they are sometimes called, originates from their unusual eyes, which are pointed upward and are large and tubular. Specimens have been collected at depths of almost 900 m (3,000 feet) and are nearly always found at least 100 m (330 feet) below the surface. The barreleye fish have strong digestive system and they usually feed on jellies and small drifting animals. The small marine creatures trapped on the tentacles of the jellies are also targeted by the barreleye fish.

Ok now last but not least how to cut salmon or trout fillets! So you wanna start by taking out the gilles so just reach your knife back behind the gilles and just cut them off. Next, you just go from the tip of the tale all the way to the chin. Then you need to take out the guts and other waste parts from the inside part to clean that out. Give it a good rinse, then you can put it right on the grill like that.

Well that’s all folks, hope y’all enjoyed!

RPC Science 4 Lesson 75-80

So today I learned about the deadly pufferfish, the very big tuna, the odd flatfish (flounder) and how to cook and prepare flounder (flatfish). First let’s start with pufferfish since it was the first lesson I did today. Pufferfish are small to medium bony fish. This is a guineafowl puffer. They swim slowly, but they have a unique ability to escape predators. This is a young pufferfish. Tiny spines poke out when it inflates.HTML5 Icon

A puffed guineafowl puffer. They are found in the eastern Pacific Ocean:HTML5 Icon

Ok now let’s talk about the very big tuna species. Tuna keep their core body temperature above water temperature. This capability allows tuna to swim fast and in cold water. Tuna also have powerful, oxygen-rich muscles.

The Atlantic bluefin tuna is the largest tuna in the world. It can reach 15 ft. and weigh over 1,500 pounds.HTML5 Icon

Yellowfin tuna have long yellow fins. They can reach 400 pounds. And swim about 50 mph.

Alright now let’s talk about flatfish.

Flatfish have both eyes on one side of the head and they swim sideways. There are over 700 species. Some are popular for food: flounders, halibut, and turbot, etc.

Flounders have camouflaged skin to hide from predators:HTML5 Icon

Just so you now flatfish and flounder are the same thing just different names. so let’s continue.

This peacock flounder (or flowery flounder) has flowery bluish spots. They can change colors to match their surroundings.HTML5 Icon

A flounder’s eyes can move independently of each other. One eye can look back and the other forward.

Halibut are a group of right-eyed flounders (the left eye moves to the right side). They live and feed on sea and lake floors (demersal fish):HTML5 Icon

*Atlantic halibut

Atlantic halibut are the largest of all flatfish. They can grow to 15 ft. and weigh over 700 pounds. They live in the North Atlantic.

Pacific halibut swim in the northern Pacific ocean. They can grow to 8 ft. and weigh over 500 pounds. Oky dokely let’s talk about how to cut fillets on a flatfish. I am going to do it on a white fish instead because we own a website called click fork so technically click fork it a bunch of different farmers that all work together to make one website its called “cilckfork.ca” so make sure to check it out for me and my family cause me and my sister sell eggs on their so anyways, we also sell whitefish from a fisherman that has their own store. Ok so now we will talk about how to cut the fillets in a flounder. So to cut a fillets out of a fish flounder you would need a fillets cutting knife witch is technically just a knife that is flexible that you can bend a bit but not bend like rubber will bend but how the material will bend just a bit.

  1. Ok so you wanna start by making a little hole under the gills and then you should be able to pull out the guts.
  2. So now that you have pulled the guts out you want to use the belly of your knife to cut a line from under the gills to the other side in an even line. Then, go right down to the tale and cut a line across that.
  3. Then you want to cut a line from its nose to the tale. You can now start cutting your fillets.
  4. Just take your knife and slide back with it and then repeat the same cycle again 4 more times their you go you just got 4 fillets from a fish.

So that’s all folks! Hope y’all enjoyed!

RPC History 4 Lesson 55-60

Hey guys! today I will be talking to you about the inventions I learned about today. So first up I learned about the trebuchet.

The world before it…

The song Dynasty ruled over China for a while and it also represented the compass as well as gun powder. The Byzantine empire was at its pinnacle after a period of instability. In 1995 the Crusades were gonna begin.

How it was invented…

The trebuchet was inspired by the sling. The first trebuchet was called the traction trebuchet. The traction trebuchet was invented by the Chinese in the 300s BC. The Byzantine empire had them by 500 AD, and the Muslims by the 600s.

Distilled spirits (New invention)

Now let’s learn about Distilled spirits!

The world before it…

Aristotle might have known something about the process in making beer and wine. Alexandrian scholars were familiar with the process since 1st century AD. It was a key tool in the occult art of alchemy(you pronounce it as alkemi) It impressed the greeks and they knew about 7 different planets mars, sun, moon, mercury, venus, saturn and Jupiter.

How it was invented…

The alchemical tradition was handed down in books to the school of Salerno in 1077 AD. Alchemy was about secret knowledge and personal transformation.

Vertical windmills

Now let’s talk about vertical windmills

The world before it…

Before the windmill they used water mills. But they didn’t use it much because of taxes and revenue. The water mills ran trip hammers, belows, saw and more. Water mills sprang up rapidly after Rome fell. Water mills we’re very popular around Europe.

The first practical windmills had sails that rotated in a horizontal plane, around a vertical
axis. According to Ahmad Y. al-Hassan, these panemone windmills were invented in
eastern Persia as recorded by the Persian geographer Estakhri in the ninth century.
Made of six to 12 sails covered in reed matting or cloth material, these windmills were
used to grind grain or draw up water, and were quite different from the later European
vertical windmills. Windmills were in widespread use across the Middle East and Central
Asia, and later spread to China and India from there.

How it works…

Gears inside a windmill convey power from the rotary motion of the sails to a
mechanical device. The sails are carried on the horizontal windshaft. Windshafts can be
wholly made of wood, or wood with a cast iron poll end (where the sails are mounted)
or entirely of cast iron.

Stern-Mounted Rudder

Let’s talk about the stern-mounted rudder.

The world before it…

Generally, a rudder is “part of the steering apparatus of a boat or ship that is fastened
outside the hull”, that is denoting all different types of oars, paddles, and rudders.[1]
More specifically, the steering gear of ancient vessels can be classified into side-rudders
and stern-mounted rudders, depending on their location on the ship. A third term,
steering oar, can denote both types. In a Mediterranean context, side-rudders are more
specifically called quarter-rudders as the later term designates more exactly the place
where the rudder was mounted. Stern-mounted rudders are uniformly suspended at the
back of the ship in a central position.

How it works…

A rudder is a primary control surface used to steer a ship, boat, submarine, hovercraft,
aircraft, or other conveyance that moves through a fluid medium (generally air or water).
On an aircraft the rudder is used primarily to counter adverse yaw and p-factor and is
not the primary control used to turn the airplane. A rudder operates by redirecting the
fluid past the hull (watercraft) or fuselage, thus imparting a turning or yawing motion
to the craft. In basic form, a rudder is a flat plane or sheet of material attached with
hinges to the craft’s stern, tail, or after end.

That’s all for now see you later!

RPC Science 4 Lesson 71-75

Hey guys! so today I will be talking to you about sharks. So in these few lessons I learned a lot of crazy facts that you might not believe me on this, but its worth a try!

Ok so did you know that sharks have eyelids!? Well I didn’t know until now so all I know about them is this: sharks actually close their eyelids when they hunt prey to protect their eyes and no they do not have clear eyelids like some reptiles have they just have simple eyelids just like us humans. Often folks think that sharks bite accidentally because when get up close to the camera they close their eyes and if they bite it was an accident because they don’t see what their doing! Their eye structure is the same as human eye so that means they have a shark has an iris just like me and you and they also have pupil like us witch can open and close like humans. For a long time scientist believed that their electro sensory system (we will cercle back to this later) would make up for their poor vison but nope they can see even better than us humans! In fact when you look in to a sharks eye it reflects back at you just like a cats eyes. Do sharks have ears? Yes they do its just so hard to see that you wouldn’t be able to see it if you didn’t know it was their and a lot of folks would say that nope sharks don’t have ears! But actually they do have ears.

Ok I said I was gonna cercle back to this later so I will. Did you know that sharks are so sensitive that if you took a battery and attached to wires to it and separated it a kilometer (km and this is a very very far distance) the shark would still sense it!

Well I think I’m finished here so see you later!

RPC Science 4 Lesson 66-70

Today I learned about five different things. The first two things are animals and the third and fourth also the fifth are all about how to fish but I already know how to fish 🐟 🐠.

So let’s start with lampreys. I find lampreys are weird but idk bout what you think 💭 🤔 anyway, let’s talk about their interesting facts. Lampreys are part of the Jawless class of fish. Meaning they have no jaws. There are 38 living species.

Ya, I know right!?!? Oky dokely lets go to the ssssssssssslimy hagfish!

Eww gross right. So they actually are kinda cool 😎 though cause you would get free slime from them if you had a pet hagfish that is but just look at all that slimy slime they make it’s ewwww but at the same time it’s 😎 dope.

Anyway we’re talking bout fishin now so hold on to your hats y’all cause it’s gonna get darn tutin exciting!!!

So technically this is what I learned

#nick the informative fisherman is quite informative. And I also learned about this

That’s all folks, hope y’all enjoyed!

RPC Science 4 Lesson 61-65

Today I will be talking about the animals I learned about in my previous science lessons from today. But it aint birds no more cause were are gonna to talk about…………aquatic creatures!!! Yes that means animals that live underwater like fish and sharks like the great white shark and for fish lion fish. Their are to many lion fish and fisherman are trying to catch them to reduce their amount but it’s hard cause they grow quickly and they have poison spines on there back.

Fish swim in fresh or salty water. There are 32,000 species. They extract oxygen from the water with gills.

Most fish are cold-blooded. Their body temperature changes with the water temperature.HTML5 Icon

Most fish have small hard plates that grow out from the skin called scales. The scales protect the fish. Mucous often coats the scales making them slippery to the touch. Tooth-like scales  grow on cartilaginous fish. More are added as the shark grows.

That’s all folks, hope y’all enjoyed!
